Help with writing my resume? |
im adding my job to my resume and im having trouble with what im goin to write ima cook at a country club and i work every section from the deep fryer to grill to plating but im having issues puttin it into words that sound good we also do weddings first is name, and contact info, second is professional info, this is the part you sell yourself to potential employers. third, is list of skills, use key words that you target employer is looking for. Fourth, is job history to backup your claims. fifth is education that is applicable to the job which you have taken. and lastly, put reference available upon request at the end of the page. make sure it's one page, direct, and easy to comprehend. the average resume gets only a ten second glance. so make sure you nail the key words you target employer is looking for. awesome my wife is great at cooking too explain how the kitchen you work in is partitioned and the area you usually work then talk about the kind of events you prepare for from a meal rush to an event like a wedding. It's kind of hard to answer without seeing the resume format you use. Generally, when I make a resume I have it broken into sections. For example: Experience: Job Name Dates Employed Position Job Responsibilities Etc. All of the experience you have you could just list under job responsibilities. That way they can see everything you've done with your current job. If you are looking for a job somewhere else, list the country club job something like this. Country Club Employed from this date to that date Responsibilities: Various cooking tasks including fry cook, grill cook, and experience expoditing (plating food and reading off orders). Also experienced helping organinze the catering of weddings. Then list any other jobs you have had, any good grades you have had, strengths that would help you at this place, and any special skills. Also give three people who aren't related to you as referenced (i.e. previous bosses.) What you might do is list the general duties of the job under the name of the country club: "Lead cook responsible for all aspects of kitchen: including scheduling employees, ordering from multiple vendors, inventory control, equipment cleaning & maintenance, prep work, and setting daily menu. Current Serve Safe certification (2005)." And then in a personal statement you could say something like: "I have 15 years experience in all aspects restaurant food service. I am proficient with prep work, fryers, grills, broilers, ovens, sauces, and all other aspects of running a restaurant kitchen including safety and sanitation. Additionally I have nine years experience catering for special events of up to 300 people. I have taken 35 units in culinary arts at San Francisco Community College and my kitchens have an unbroken record of clean health department inspections. Furthermore, my restaurant was given fours stars by The San Francisco Chronicle for each of the last five years." Really it's up to you what put into the resume, but you want to include things that help your resume stand out from the others they receive. I would also recommend focusing on anything that's special about your restaurant such as catering to special diets or using any foods that require special handling, as well as any equipment that isn't found in the average restaurant. |
