just applied for this really good job in loss prevention with a really good company ,the guy says he has to wait for the backhround check to come back and if thats good i have the job. i do have a misdeameaner, but in the past 2 years i have had 3 jobs in loss prevention, so im assuming this misdeamoner hasnt shown up. im the most nervous now because this is the company i want, do you think there is need to worry? choicepoint is conducting the background check anyony ever hear of them?
Of course your violation shows up, perhaps the companies in the past didn't mind. However, you should be aware that you should inform the company of the violation prior to them running a background check. Some companies will not care, however some will look at as a sign of dishonesty. Face it, you made a mistake and the new you is capable of owning up to it. It does show up on your criminal background checks, however, it depends on the type of misdemeanor it was. I have actually heard of this Choicepoint. If you're looking for a job in loss prevention and have a misdemeanor, it could actually pose a risk to you getting the job. I have a friend who is a Paramedic and is entrusted to handle controlled narcotics, he recently applied for a part time job for loss prevention and because he had a misdemeanor from over 5 years ago he didn't get the job, even though that's the only thing on his record...doesn't even have any moving violations. Do let the employer know what the misdemeanor was for and how long ago it has been since conviction, especially if you were asked on the application if you have ever been convicted of a crime.
