Does this sound like DUMB advise to give for interview techniques? At a bar and or restaurant? |
1.Just ask for an application, and ignore and don't ask if they're hiring or not first, just ask for the application. (Does this come across as rude and blindly optimistic ?) 2. Wear a suit, i.e. wear white shirt and black pants (Won't you look a little off kilter and ridiculous in this, especially if its hot outside?) 3. Send a thank you note after the interview ? (Do they really have time to read things like this, then your just wasting their precious time, if they're going to call you and give you the job this effect is kinda over dramatic and unnecessary? And maybe even a little stalkerish) 1. Yes, it is rude. 2. It really depends on the kind of restaurant. Just dress a little better than those who work in the place. 3. You are not going to lose anything if you do that. In fact, sending a thank you note might give you the edge over the other applicants. It is really up to you whether you send one or not. Peace and blessings! 1. Dumb. You should definitely ask when would be a good time to come back. This could lead to you setting up an interview. 2. A little strange. Dress nice, but if you overdo it you will look a little off kilter. I might question your mental abilities! 3. I see no real problem with this, but I agree, it's probably unnecessary. Fast food manager I usually just ask for an application, but I work in health care and its just easier to get an application at the front desk then wait for them to find the right person to talk to etc. Besides nursing homes are always hiring usually - outside of that i do ask if they are hiring. I wear what would be appropriate for the job, I think for a bar or restaurant I would just dress clean and casual, you know a nice outfit but nothing over the top. I was told to wear my best clothes to an interview I got at daylight donuts (didn't always work in the homes ) and that just seemed stupid, maybe if I was applying for a job as a bank teller but not making donuts on the night shift! Yeah I was told to send a thank you note after the interview too, the idea is to make you stand out form the other applicants. I will NOT do this - it just seems weird. 1. No. Ask if they are hiring...I managed a restaurant and hired several people who walked in and asked (of course I gave them an application). 2. Wear something a little nicer than the servers wear. If you wear white shirt and black pants it will look more like a uniform...not necessary, maybe a little off. 3. I don't think a note is appropriate for a restaurant. A call is better. I appreciated the call cuz so much on my mind...needed a reminder. Even if they say they are not hiring, go ahead and fill out the application. There have been many times when I have told people that I am not hiring, only to be looking through the applications that I have a week later. A suit is a bit over the top, unless you are looking for a management position. |
