Does anyone have any good job interview tips? |
I fianally got a interview at a place where I allways wanted to work.I am really nervious I have really messed up interviews in the past. Can someone please thell me their interview stratiges? Going on interviews is like giving a speech: the more prepared you are, the better it will be. Preparation will help you control your nerves. Take off additional stress by recognizing that everyone (every applicant competing for the job) is nervous too. It's not just you. But, to help compensate for it, prepare as completely as you can. Know something about the organization: who are their customers, what they do, maybe even a little about their history, if possible. If they have a web site, read it. Write out about a dozen questions you think they'll ask... a lot are standard: why do you want to work here? What can you bring to the company? Tell us something about yourself. What are your strengths and weaknesses? How would you handle ___ (fill in based on the job position - maybe it's customer service problems, problem solving, multitasking, etc.). Practice answering your questions. Then, have a friend write up a couple questions and do a mock interview with the friend asking you both your & his/her questions. Know what points you want to stress about yourself and try to work those into your answers. Have one or two questions prepared to ask the interviewer (what characteristics does your ideal candidate have? Why is this position available? Does this position offer advancement in the company? etc.) Finally, first impressions cannot be underestimated: dress professionally, smile, look the interviewer in the eyes and offer a firm handshake. Good luck! be smart n casual........and never let anyone distract u Stay calm...DON'T STRESS....make eye contact don't look down at the floor ...run question that you think you might be asked thou your head and think of good answer and be ready DON'T over or UNDER dress wear nice clean cloths talk smart not ghetto have confidence and stand tall I'm guessing this is a restaurant you are talking about? I own one, and i'll tell you the two things that applicants say that get me everytime. 1. Applicants that have obviously done as much research as possible about my restaurant. They have always gotten the jobs because they are showing me they really WANT to work for ME, and they don't just need a job. Our most recent hire and highest paid employee since we opened 4 years ago must have read every review and website on us that he could find...he really impressed me! 2. If you have eaten there (sounds like you have?) tell them that you have looked into working at other places but this place is what you really want because you have dined there one or many times and you are so impressed by their ".......service, wine list, organic ingredients, whatever." Let the employer know you REALLY want to work there. As a restaurant owner, one of my biggest headaches is employee turnover. So if i find someone who is going to truly WANT to be at work each night, I snatch them up ASAP....even if they have some learning to do,at least i know they will show up every day. Are you applying at a restaurant? For a serving job? If so, you CANNOT show that you are nervous....they are going to pick up on that and won't want you like that with their customers.... I interviewed dozens of chefs before I found one who said, "I'm a professional chef. You tell me what you want and I can do it for you. Your name is over the door, not mine." The others all wanted to tell me what THEY wanted, not what I wanted or what the customers might want. Maybe there's a lesson here for you. Maybe not. |
