Bartender school in London, but working in the US? |
Is a Bartender course in a very respectable school in London worth in the US? I am coming back to america next year, but I am thinking in taking an intensive bartender coursein London, but don't know if the employers back in america will accept that. The course it's very expensive so I need to know that! Cheers! Bartending school is a waste of time and money. No reputable bar hires bartenders anyway, they only hire barbacks and promote from within. I own a restaurant and bar and personally, I think I subconsciously disregard any resumes for bartenders that went to a bartending school. It makes me think that they had to go to school to learn some skills because no bar would hire them! Come on, that is a job you learn by working behind a bar and getting lots of experience. NOT by learning in a classroom or fake bar set up. I would consider it worth ZERO VALUE as an employer. Somewhat the same with chefs. I have had more CIA grads apply to my restaurant that had NO CLUE what really working in a hot high stress demanding kitchen was like at all! I even had a CIA graduate come in to apply for our executive chef position and informed me that by the way, he "wasn't available weekends." are you kidding?!? i'm all for a college or trade school education for SOME professions, but in the restaurant biz, nothing compares to experience! |
