What can I do to make teens work & have fun? |
I am a general manager at a a large pizza restaurant. I have lots of teens who work for me, but I am close to there age at 20 years old. I try to make work fun, but try to get work done at athe same time. With them it's either work and complain or no work and joke around. What can I do to male them work and have fun at the same time?? And the complaining about work is driving me crazy. I am fun and very easy to please so I don't know what to do. Thanks to all for answers/suggestions! I think that you would have to reward them in front of the others when they do their work...this would encourage the others to step up...and if they didn't do the work they are assigned,your gonna have to be a boss,you can't be a boss,and a friend...tell them hey,that's what I hired you for...work is never fun...make it a party at nite,music,,,while they are cleaning... Small perks. Honestly, feed them. Free food is a big thing. And, not just pizza from the restaurant. Even my 30 and 40-year old employees get excited over free food. LOL! No matter what you do people are going to complain. It's great you are doing things to make it enjoyable, whiners will still whine though. I would suggest attaching rewards to performance goals. This way you can do fun things IF the crew meets their expectations. Maybe offer an incentive like who ever works the hardest gets first choice of time off. Or maybe an employee of the week and whom ever gets the most at the end of a few months gets a prise. Really they're being babies and you sound like a very responsible young man.....you'll go far in life. Good luck. Do not hire friends or family. They will be the first to take advantage of your position. The truth is, work is not a playground. You need to make sure the work gets done and done right, that's your job. If you have people crying about how hard it is to do some dishes or fold pizza boxes, then tell them that this job might not be for them. That will open their eyes and let them see that your tired of hearing it. If you do not get control, then the owner will get someone that will. So its your job or theirs. |
