Considering asking manager for a volunteer position as a hostess instead of accepting minimum wage? |
After earning more than 10 dollars per hour the whole time working, and recently on a current job search and getting offered jobs as hostess instead of other positions there, not sure why. Would it be O.K. to just offer to volunteer as a hostess instead of accept minimum wage, when u have never worked for minimum wage in your life? Degrading, to someone who has never stood in the same spot for hours for minimum wage? Get off your high horse. Most places hire hostesses as trial positions. With your attitude you won't last a week. Don't be so proud. There is nothing wrong with working for minimum wage. There is a problem with volunteering. A volunteer gets no benefits. If you slip on a wet floor and are hospitalized you will pay for that out of your own pocket unless there is a special provision for that. Why would you want to work if not for money? Most people want to support themselves and have money to spend. Keep looking and maybe you will find another $10 an hour job, but if you are smart you will look for something you can do that will work into something more substantial. Try some career counseling. It is not legal. There are many laws about this type of thing. Besides that if there were enough people like you. Why would they pay any one minimum wage or better? Because of liability and insurance issues, they must hire you rather than have a volunteer woring in the restaurant. If you don't need the money, take the job and donate your wages to some charity. You have to understand that a hostess position is generally a non skilled entry level position. That is why the minimum wage. There are some real good hostesses out there and they are the first impression that a customer gets from the restaurant. but the facts remain. If you want something that pays better, apply for a job that requires more skills. |
