I want to be a chef?

Well, I'm starting college for the first time this fall to become a Social Worker, I already partially paid my first semester tuition, but now I'm having second thoughts about it. I've always had a passion in food, I just never thought I could make enough money being a chef (I dont think Social workers even get paid much)... but money isn't too high on my priority list, I'd like to have a career that I'd enjoy and not just because it pays well... is it too late to change my mind? I'm thinking about getting a refund before school starts and applying to a nice cooking school.

It's totally never too late to make that transition towards what you're really passionate about. Don't keep going through the motions of going to school to become a social worker if that's not really turns your knobs, you know? (Don't get me wrong - I think it's very admirable of people to go for these positions)

Since your school hasn't started yet, I'm sure there are ways to get a full refund. Most schools only cut down your refund or refuse refunds if classes have already begun.

School-wise, I occasionally see an TV ad for Le Cordon Bleu culinary schools & I think they have several US locations. Someone I know is attending there right now and they really like it, and are learning a lot. I think this school has a pretty good reputation, but just to be sure I think it would be wise to do some online research. Maybe even look into overseas culinary schools? Europe has SO much to offer when it comes to food!

Hope I was of help, best of luck to you and your dreams of becoming a chef!
Cooking and being a chef are two totally different things. Go check out a culinary institute if you're interested.
I would go for it. I wanted to do the same thing, and didn't. Go with your passions, you'll never regret it.
If that is what you would like to do by all means switch to another course.

Peace and blessings!
No, not even close to too late. Also, if you were starting with a career as a social worker and changing to a chef you should make more money, possibly significantly more. While there is no potential for high paying jobs as a social worker, the top level chefs can demand a lot of money.
Quit school and go to work in a restaurant.
If you still love it after 2 years, look into culinary school.
Culinary school is for people who are already in the profession.
You High School guidance councilor will tell you different but s/he has never really worked in the real world.
See what credits are transferrfable, see how making a switch to culinary arts could affect your financial aid / or finances period.. pursue what you wanna do ChefboyareMAX!!! good luck !!
