Does a chef or pastry chef make a lot or average salary? |
id like to know because its one thing i would like to do but i dont want to make 20,000 a year or something A chef can make from $30,000 to over $100,000. It depends on your years of experience, your talent, and your location. Before you get into a culinary school, you have to have experience such as sous chef, etc....you can't just enroll and learn to cook. And yes, you will have times when you make $20,000 a year. You want the money, you have to work yourself up to it. You don't graduate from a culinary school and get big bucks. You start out at the bottom and work your way up. And be prepared to work 10-15 hours a day, 5-7 days a week, because that is what it's like. If you are not ready to do that, you'd better find some other line of work. While it is true that you can make 100k, most don't and 20k is an excellent starting wage. If you are considering a food service career, work in the industry for a few years. If you like it you can go to school and make better money. It's a really hard line of work with long hours and low pay to start, but if your cut out for it, the sky's the limit.
