Which job to choose, waitress or bank teller? |
I am 19 and a full time stdent in college, looking for a new job. I have 2 offers a waitress at decent size restuarant/ truck stop or a bank teller for a credit union. The teller pays $9.35 per hour. I have a friend who waitresses at the same place and she said she makes $80-120 per night in tips. I can't decide which to take, the money or a good job. But thats why you work right?...money? bank teller I say to choose the bank teller job. you don't always get good tips as a waitress and I imagine it more work and more hours. good luck If you are looking for a short term gig or part time hours and don't plan to stick around, the waitressing is easier to get into and get going, but if you want to work during school and might want to work for the bank when you get out it's a better long term option. Not sure how many part time jobs they have though. Hope that helps. Also very different environments - in one you will learn a trade and the other hustle and take orders, possibly late at night. If you are a waitress, tips come from smiles so if you have a bubbly and fun personality that is a plus but if you don't, you won't get many tips. If you are okay with not having a set amount paid to you each week, then go with the waitress. I was a waiter for two years at a Denny's and made over 50k per year while doing it. It is very hard to budget off of tips, but the money is much better than what you would make as a teller. Pick a job that you can handle, and that wouldn't stress you. You'll probably make more money now as a waitress, but you'll have to deal with customers that can be frustrating and/or don't tip [or steal your tips], and long hours on your feet. The bank teller job will be more of a steady income to plan around, and usually less hassle, but you may have to buy dressier clothes, if that's not your style now. It may also look better on a resume in the future. Make a list of the good and bad of each, and then try to picture them both and go with the one you could see yourself doing and enjoying more. go for the bank teller. . . as a waitress you have to put up with so much crap. . .you will hate going to work everday. . too much stress going to school and becoming a waitress |
