I'm thinking that a waitress might be a fun job? Any waitresses/waiters out there w/ tips (no pun intended)? |
Hey. i'm 21....I have an office job, but it's kind of crappy. I'm not going to waste time going into details. anyway, i make $15 an hour, which is pretty rad, but the days are so LOOOOoonnngg and SLLllooooooowwwwW. Over the weekend I went to this restaurant "BJs" (they're famous in SoCal), and our waiter guy had such a cute personality, he was so much fun, he made me want to be a waitress! I think it would be a fun social job, but do you think it would be too stressful? I don't know. I'm kind of shy, so I feel drained at the end of the day by being aroudn people, would this not be a good choice for me? On the other hand, I think it would afford me a chance to work on my people skills. I'm not some hermit or anything, but I"m not as cheerleader-y as I may need to be if I really want to have some fun being a waitress... Get a second job waiting tables before you ditch the job you have. It's great work if you love it but it will be some time before you're makeing that kind of money. it's fun if you know how to handle obnoxious customers and remember all the orders. you shud definitely go for it. it's good to try new things. if you dun like it, then look for another job. good luck to you! I would say that you need to be friendly because the customers do not have to spend their money there. They say, "the customer is always right" and you have to believe that because they are the ones paying your wages. If you can be friendly and not make them wait too long for their food, then you can make a lot of money in tips. I did it for many years and another benefit is that you stay in shape because you're constantly walking back and forth. It would not be a good fit if you are lazy! go rent the movie 'waiting'. funny & its a pretty accurate account. Oh OPEN that can of worms!! Do you like sore feet? Fishing change out of spills on tables, drying off dollar bills? Cleaning up after manic children with no parental control, trying to explain the charges on a bill? Sore neck? Sore back? The occasional barfing kid? Screaming children at nearby tables and pissing off other customers you have to try and appease? Being stiffed on tips no matter HOW hard you worked because someone "doesn't believe in tipping" (Yes I know people that honestly believe this is appropriate)? Because all of these and more are a golden guarantee in this business. In college I waited tables everywhere from a Koney Island to a $100 a plate steakhouse. It is the same everywhere. The only thing that can make a job fun is a good manager and good coworkers. So unless you can guarantee it, be ready to work really hard and learn to smile even if someone is sticking a fork in your back. This is NOT a fun time, this is one of the harder jobs out there and you have to have just the right personality and attitude to really enjoy it. Koney Island to the Red Bull, it's all the same... someone please please rub my feet. |
