I just started waiting tables, any good waiting tips to help you score?

1. Anticipate your customer's needs before they ask - give parent's extra napkins ASAP, refill drinks when they are almost empty, bring more bread/chips (if your restaurant does this), bring condiments

2. People are out to dinner to enjoy each other and not you. Ask them if their food is prepared properly ONCE, but beside that, make yourself available all the time by being in your station and walking by a lot.

3. Only strike up conversations with you tables IF they start it with you, and regardless, keep it short. Other tables need you, and, once again, the customers are not there for the server.

4. Always smile and be polite no matter how you are feeling.

5. Check all the food you bring out to make sure it is correct. It is better to fix mistakes before the customers catch it.

6. NEVER touch the rim of a glass with your fingers - this is where the customers' place their lips.

7. Always look well groomed.

8. When your customer's finish, remove their plates ASAP, and ask if they would like a specific dessert - this will up your sales. Bring the check ASAP, and continuously check for their payment. Customers hate it when they have to wait and wait to leave.

9. Never talk shop with the other servers around ANY customers.

10. Make sure all your food comes out hot by picking it up at the window as soon as possible.

11. Greet your table within 30 seconds of seating, even if you have to say that you will be right back to get the drink order.

Every restaurant has its own rules and ways of doing things, but I made great tips for years by following the basics above. Source(s): Food server, bartender and restaurant manager for numerous steakhouses
when you wait on older people use yes sir and mam when talking to them.Always be polite,as much as possible.
try being extra nice to people. continue to check on them time and time again, people like it when their waitress checks on them alot. Also if lots of males come in where you are waiting tables, where a low cut shirt and show off that cleavage.
SMILE...speak directly to your guests (people you are waiting on) be attentive to their needs, but don't hover...if anything is wrong with their order...don't take it personally, but DO NOT point out it's not your "fault".. just apologize, offer to have it made right and then DO it...
Make light jokes if you think it's appropriate...NEVER discuss your personal life...(they REALLY don't care)...do NOT complain (A REAL turn-off for customers...they don't really care about your sore feet, etc...)...or act as though they look like they cannot afford to eat there (you never know who can afford what....)...be courteous....warm and helpful.
KNOW the menu...how things are prepared and what the specials are..(if any) NEVER put down ANYTHING on the menu..anyone you work with (or for) or a rival restuarant (or bar)...sniping about a rvial business just makes YOU look petty...
Treat your job as though it were the most important thing you'll ever do...and you'll do well....
Show some skin.........
Always anticipate your customers needs! When taking there order, it helps to ask if they like any sort of special sauce or extras with their meal, it will save you time if you can bring it out with their meal. Plus they'll appreciate your fore-thought. Learn about upselling, such as premium liquors instead of well, adding salads, soups, appetizers, and desserts. Also use lots of descriptive words when describing something you want to sell. You are sales person, not a waitress. Your comission is up to you based on your level of service and the total price of their meal.
