Is it good to be a chef??wht are the oppourtunities?!!? From my experience, It is good to be a Chef. But understand that the term Chef is used loosely, mostly by those who have not been professionally trained or have not worked in the industry. Most people start out at the bottom, as a cook and work their way up as they learn. It is hard work, but also very enjoyable. Being a Chef has lots of opportunities, you can work anywhere in the world. Once you achieve the position of Chef, the pay and benefits are usually very good also. Understand that it is a physically and mentally demanding job. You will work nights and weekends and holidays, when your friends and family are off. It is not only about food and cooking skills, but it also requires good people skills as you train and work with others on your team. Good luck!! yes it is good to be a chef,as long as you are very creative about your recipes and presentation.coming to the opportunities if you are talented then you will always have opportunities.if you think you can bear the heat of the kitchen as well as the competition then it is good otherwise you will end up as a cook.think about it I'm am not a chef or cook, but I do know that the chef is the main person in the kitchen as he or she oversees the daily happenings including planning the 'day's specials' and managing the kitchen staff. One needs to learn about proper food safety and sanitation regardless of which position that one has in a kitchen. As you are probably aware, a lot of standing, stooping, lifting and kneeling may be required to work as a chef. (Just fyi, a 'sous chef' is the person second in line to the chef, and it's pronounced 'su shef' :) Here is a website from the US Occupational Outlook Handbook: www.bls.gov/oco and can type into search 'chef'. Good luck to you! Good money. People eat no matter what the economy is like. |
