Is being a chef, a bad idea? |
I love to cook and have a wonderful curiousness with expeirimenting different flavors and ingrediants. Do you think I should think seriously about going to colonary school to become a chef, or is it a too ''out of the league'', too risky job. I'm 14 and dont know what to do with my life! Being a chef is a GREAT IDEA! Everyone needs to eat, right? Don't get me wrong, it is not one of those easy jobs and youcould work more than you see your own bed sometimes, but it pays off. You have the opportunity to run your own restaurant one day, if you work at it. i'm 14 too and i don't know what to do w/ my life either, but if you really love cooking and you are good at it, go for it. However, being a chef can be tough because not all chefs become really successful and you should have a backup plan. as you get older you'll probably get a better idea whether or not you really want to do that or not If being a chef is what you want to do, do it! Yes, your opinion could change over the next few years, but in the meantime take as many cooking classes as you can. You may think you can't do anything until you get to college, but you can. And if you keep cooking more and more and keep loving it more and more than I say Become A Chef! If you very passionate about it ,go for it. Follow your dreams kid! I like to cook too! Well if thats what you want to do then thats what you should do. As somebody that has worked in hospitatlity for a lonnng time i suggest that you get a job as a kitchenhand or something to see just how things work in a kitchen. Remember hospitality is hard work, you have long hours, hectic work and little to no recognition. I do recommed that you finish school first though. well, im a culinary student, and just graduated. from what i can say, and others as well, hospitality is hard and tough work. starting in the kitchen, u really need a strong motivation to keep on going, this include overwork, under paid, getting scold. u need time to climb thru the ladder to reap the reward, and u should be around 40 something to 50 to be some1 great. |
