Im 14 and i really need a job but where can i work? |
I'm 14 and i want a job to make money but since school is back i need a job for the weekends or after school and i live in Houston, Texas so where can i work? You need to be 16 to really work anywhere. However, you can get a newspaper route. But to get a job at places like MacDonald's, Subway, etc. you will have to wait until your 16. Don't forget to get your proper working papers. To go the less professional way, you can baby sit, do household chores for money, rake leaves, mow lawns for people, etc. if you're just looking for some extra pocket money or something, try babysitting. Unfortunately at 14 you are pretty much limited to a food service industry (ie: McDonalds, Burger King) or a grocery store. Because of labor laws in America, most places don't hire until 16. You could always work in a family owned business though, they usually cut you a little more slack. Try small resturants, mom & pop burger stands. And, try Panera if you guys have one...they'll hire you no ?'s asked. I am high school student and I was in your situation a few months ago, just apply at a bunch of different places you would like to work and try not to be picky. I was really picky at first, but now I've ended up at a job I never had in mind but it makes $$. But since you're 14 your job opportunities will be limited. Try the movie theater or grocery store because I always see younger people work there. Focus on your studies, they are far more important than money at your age. If you can be true to your self and accept that you don't have extra money right now for fancy clothes, or the latest trend. You will see that if you focus on study all the things that you miss out on (which are just not necessary at your age but everyone around you makes it seem so) will be much much easier to have when you are a professional and where it does matter.
