Waitressing tip question? |
has anyone every had thier tips taken? i was thinking about getting a waitressing job and im obviously naive about the whole thing. good/bad stuff. is it worth it? Yes it does. You will learn to stay on top of things. It is actually your own colleagues that can be the bad ones sometimes not necessarily the customers. It is still worth it. i've heard of other people taking waittress tips. but i've never seen it happen. and the other workers arent supposed to take the waitress' tips. so if you caught them, then they'd be in trouble. I don't wait tables but some places do take your tips and then keep a percentage and average out the remainder between all of the wait staff. That is why I always tip cash at the table or hand it directly to the waitress when noone is looking. If they take your tips you just have to pocket what you can. It su x to be sneaky but it is your money not theirs, when I tip I intend for it to go to my waitress only. No, but people walk off without paying. A lot of restaurants make you pay for the meal if it happens. Depends where you work. With little/no experience you might be stuck at a lower priced restaurant. Your tips are depend on the bill so try to work at the most expensive place in town (busy as well). Good money for short hours, flexibile if you're a student. Bad thing is you have crappy hours. Get used to working at night and on weekends. You can opt to work during the day but when are restaurants busy? When the free world is off of work and go out to dinner with the family...Your tips depend on how busy your restaurant is, how many tables you get, how fast you can turn the tables, and how much the food costs. what do you mean, taken? I don't know. Waitressing is not for everyone. I've seen fellow waitresses crying from the stress. I've been doing it for 6 years now and I'm finally getting out---you get sick of people after that many years of dealing with straight up BULLshlt. It's usually good money though...1st and 3rd shifts pay the best. 2nd is slow. Work at a smaller-family-owned restaurant for better tips. Bigger chain restaurants surprisingly you don't make that much at. Good luck! They cant legally take your tips thats stupid. Bartenders in some restaurants split their tips at the end of the shift but nobody takes your tips. You might have to tip out a busser or host though. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "taken." So we'll cover all of the bases. Typically, it is your responsibility to keep track of your tips. It's "your" money, so you need to make sure to keep track of it as you would anything else. If you have bussers, they will be usually instructed as to what to do with your tips. Although sometimes this means leave them on the table for the waitstaff to pick up. Of course, the world isn't a perfect place and there are some shady customers who will try to steal tips of tables. It really doesn't happen very often, seeing as how there isn't very much cash there to make it worth it. Disappearing Tips have happened a lot less since everyone now uses debit cards and credit cards for more and more dining out purchases. This way, the tip is written on the receipt and there's very little chance of vanishing cash. Hope this helps! |
