I'm 14 years old and I need a job....? |
So where can I find a job at 14 years old? I don't really have any connections with anyone and I just need to start working to pay my mom back some money that I owe her. Pretty much any place you walk into that has a "help wanted" sign, apply to. Don't be afraid to call, or walk in and ask how the hiring is going, so that the person hiring can put a name to a face. Otherwise, you're just another piece of paper on a stack. If you are uncomfortable with your lack of job experience, make a resume including all of your school accomplishments and extracurricular activities and turn in with application. Ask friends or relatives to keep an eye out for places that are hiring. Also, it is a bit late now but a lot of cities have a special teen employment program for the summer. Maybe next year you can look into that? Some schools have a class that helps you to get a job and you work during their block, ask your counselor about this... Finally, just because you have a good feeling from a job possibility or interview, do NOT stop applying for anything else. Good luck =) Hope you fare better than I have so far, actually though, I have a *promising?* interview at K-Mart next week, so who knows? Edit--the vast majority of kids I see outside of school working, ARE working at restaurants (fast food or sit-down), so maybe put some extra effort into that job area? All places will hire at 14. However, usually they have rules like you cannot work past 8pm. If you are saying anywhere, where is your favorite fast food, cause they will hire you, or maybe Starbucks or a coffee shop somewhere. Start off with something just to get your mom paid back, and when you turn 15 then you can go wherever you want. At 14, not many places like chain restaurants will hire you yet. Try babysitting, chores for neighbors etc. Or you can try putting your application in small locally owned businesses. At 14 there isnt too much you can do, try applying at an arbys if you have it they usually do hire then but until you are 15 you usually cant work except for ice cream shops and mowing lawns kid. DO NOT DO THAT WEBSITE THOUGH. It is a scam and not worth your time :] Make a list of your skills. These might include babysitting, cleaning, writing, tutoring, house painting, mowing, pulling weeds, gardening, etc. Perhaps you know how to list items on eBay...or perhaps you know how to build webpages on MySpace. Perhaps you know how to make cards on your computer that you could sell to your friends. Decide which skill you want to do as a job. Then decide how much you want to charge for that skill. For example, you could probably make $10 an hour just doing cleaning for various people. Then write an ad for yourself and post it at the area grocery stores. You can also post an ad for free on Craigslist.com. Personally, I wouldn't even bother with applying to work at various places simply because you will find it a bit discouraging. They won't want to hire you due to the child labor laws. Good luck! Haley, at age 14 your mom should not expect repayment until you are about 18 or 21 yrs old. Ask her but DO NOT TRY that website. I went to it & its a scam!!! You can try Wendy's as they have an after school program. I WISH YOU WELL. |
