I just got hired but I don't want the job, should I quit before I get stuck with it? |
this new job is going to be paying me about 5 dollars less than what i'm told a make-up artist should be making at that particular location, plus there are a lot of bogus rules like the fact that i need a credit card to get a crappy discount. i've never done this before but right after i accepted the job i've been applying to other jobs ever since. i know it's not going to be enough money to pay for my school payments + credit card/gas payments. i'm supposed to start in a few days... i've never tried to get out of a job right after i was hired before this seems kinda bad if i'm already likes this, even my parents think its a bad idea to work there and they are the ones who are telling me i need to get a job. so im not sure, maybe i should just let them know i don't want to work there before i start instead of starting the training and all that and then things getting complicated if i get hired somewhere else, please help! ps. its a job at macy's. i hear it sucks to work there I assume that is $5 less per hour you are talking.. if you just up and quit.. you will be making NOTHING.. and that sure wont pay for student loans and fuel.. A crap paying job is still a paying job as long as your expense for the job does not overcome your pay. If you had another job that you accepted, I would tell them you got a better job and wont be starting.. Going in and just quiting a week or so later is really bad form UNLESS, you go in, and then get another job offer, then give them notice.. let them know, another job opportunity came up. You would like to give them 2 weeks notice, but maybe if they dont feel they need the 2 weeks, you are willing to resign immediatly, their choice. Alot of jobs will allow you to resign immedatly as that will open up the position for someone else, however , as yours needs training, they might want the 2 weeks to get another person up to speed. I had to leave a postion DURING training.. but for me, it was worth it.. They were mad at me of course, but, I got an offer for the same type of job, less actually work (slower pace) and almost 12K higher in salary...their being mad, well they would get over it... Yes better not to start the job than go in then quit. Just be firm of what you want to do in your life. I'd just tell them you got another job offer some where else instead of going through all of that. If I were you I would quit, but FIRST get a better job elsewhere. You aren't making enough to pay the bills and plus your parents don't think it's a good idea. Your employer can't kill you or anything because you don't want to work there. The worst that can happen is they will cry or something. It's your life though. So yeah. :D Just call them up and tell them you received a better offer..Its not their business if its true or not. If you quit, you will never be able to work there -- what if that is the only job you can find? If you heard it sucked, you shouldn't have applied or gone to the interview, or accepted the position. If you have another job in the wings, then call them and tell them you are no longer interested, as soon as possible so they don't tell someone else that the position is filled, and then it isn't. And next time, do homework about the job before you apply. They spend a lot of money just hiring you. And now it all goes to waste because you decided their rules are bogus, and the offer isn't for enough money. Good luck in life. If you make all your decisions like this, you are going to need it. |
