Do you think jobs discriminate against pregnant woman?

7 months ago I was hired at my job givng me 40 hours a week. Everything was going very well, my boss always complimeted me on my good work and how fast I was learning. After about three months I found out I was pregnant and told my supervisor, she was fine wth it and a couple of weeks later she said there were complaints on my work and she would be finding someone to replace me. Now Im going through temp angencies and when I go to meet the employer there always seems to be a problem, I have skills the job requires, also good refrences. I don't understand>>>

I think it is very possible that employers discriminate against pregnant women. It's not fair, but they don't want to hire someone they think might quit completely in a few months.
I don't think employers discriminate against women who are pregnant.
Yes I do think that there is a stigma against pregnant women in some career fields. A lot of people still think that you should be 30, happily married with a good job before you have a child. Hopefully it will change in the future but for now there isn't much that you can do to change their mind except be extra energetic and enthusiastic.
Well, think about it. You are pregnant, therefore you will need insurance to cover your medical costs (costs employers more money), you'll need time off (they'll need to hire a temp - more money) and then they'll have to go through the fact that you may not go back to work so they'll have to re-hire anyway. As a business owner, it only makes sense to let you go now and avoid the future costs. Sorry..it is just business. Good luck on your pregnancy and hope you find something.
(Had a preganant daughter that couldn't find work.)
most jobs have 90 day probabtion period, the employer
doesn't look at your pregnancy as discrimination, he looks
at it as, only 90 day work history, your pregnant, so
that means in 9 months (unless their are complications)
you'll be out of work for six - eight weeks (providing their are
no complications) which means he has to re-invest
in looking for someone to replace you while you are gone,
and spending all that time and effort again to re-train.
As for temp agencies, you are a temp, what if you can't
show up at the last minute, they can't send a replacement
that quickly either.
Well, It's because you had not been working for the company for a long time, you had been working there for less than a week and you got pregnant 4 months after.. usually the probation period is about 3-6 months. Yes I do think some companies discriminate against pregnant women.. it is very hard to find a job while you're pregnant.. Nobody would want to take you because companies think objectively, they know you wouldn't be there for long.. If you had been in the company for more than a year, I don't think you would have had that problem though...
