Could not find a job between age 19-23.(early 1980s)?

In that age frame I worked as a cook flipping burgers and I thought 2 to 3 years doing that,
never calling off sick, show up on time and
do your best, I thought I could move on to something else.It was not that cut and dry.
I was told jobs lead to jobs regardless of
what you do. when I tried to get something
else no one was interested in me because
I never done anything else but flip burgers.
My parents kept blaming the economy for
not being able to get a job,I blame lack of
work experience. I did not leave home
until 24,how could I? with not being able
to find a decent job. My parents said they
do not want me to go to school because
of LD. Restaurant work just leads to more
restaurant work and nothing else. How can
you expect someone 18 to just go out and
get a decent job and leave home just like that?
Things are not that easy anymore. How do you
expect to get experience if no one is willing to give it? Being young is suppose to have an advantage.

I ran into the same issues back in the early 80's and I went to a temp agency and got temp work in the field I wanted. It got me the experience I needed and I got hired on permanent. That was 26 years ago and I worked my way up the ranks to upper management.

It can be done.
have u ever placed a crab in a bucket alone?
It tries until it dies to get out.
Place a few more crabs in the bucket and they all pull the crab down until it Quits.
you've been with some crabs.
stop shoveling the holes deeper, start building some steps out .
READ that is what successful people and wannabes do.
start with these
'48 days to work you love'
'what colour is your parachute'
'think and grow rich; blacks choice'
'the millionaire next door'
read take notes rewrite understand & ACT on the info.
Poverty is a choice not birthright or skin colour. Most wealthy / rich people were poor, they chose not be any more.

.
I worked at a U-Haul center right out of high school, it was the most awesome job as a teenager. We drove the trucks around like they were go carts. We sold stuff under the table for cash and got the "hook-up" and partied all day. We would send people to Taco Bell and pig out. I was making minimum wage, it was under three bucks an hour. But I averaged about $100.oo a day on the "side" business. The Manager was pulling in 5 to 8 hundred a week! He got busted eventually and fired. I was merely following the example of "older" people. It was one of the funnest times of my work life.
The economy was really bad though in the early eighties. But I did manage. I was crooked, but that was just all part of the game.
Everyone I have worked with in the restaurant business has moved on to bigger and better things. I went from waiting tables to being a construction inspector in 4 weeks making 21.00 an hour. You have to strike up conversations with people and get involved to get job leads
