Why is it so hard for teens with no experience to find a job? |
Why is it so hard for teens with no experience to find a job? That's just part of life. Grown people have similar problems. Just keep plugging away at it. Sooner or later you will get the instinct and learn to just talk the right stuff. What your gaining now is experience in job hunting. you'll find one, just keep trying. When an employer starts talking about having experience, put the ball in their court, ask them "Don't you have a training program?". You can be a little assertive. What have you got to loose? to gain experiment are you viewing this from the kids side or the employer side they dont fully grasp how much work is needed to get one simple pay check or it is perceived that a lot of kids steal from where they work. at least more often than adults. i gave my word to stop at third. abstinence pledge. When I managed a clothing store, I usually had a hard time with teens... not because they were inexperienced, but because it was basically like hiring their parents as well. I would have parents come to the store about 20 mins or so before the teen was scheduled to get off their shift and wait around, huff and puff, look at their watch and make comments like "my child isn't helping any customers, why can't they leave already?". Also, most teens who have never worked before did not really have a sense of what WORK was. They thought that all sales associates do was try on clothes all day and flirt with cute boys as they walked past the store. I did hire a few teens looking for their first job...(i had a first job too once) but I can certainly understand why employers are hesitant to hire them. Keep looking around, or maybe get a job working for someone you know personally, to gain experience. Good luck. was a clothing store manager... interviewed and hired teens all the time Employers may not be as eager to hire teenagers because of the high turnover rate (kids quit pretty easily). The businesses don't want to spend all the time training a teen for them to turn around and quit in a month or two. If you show that you're serious about the job and willing to be a hard worker, there's a good chance that they will give you an opportunity. Besides, it's not just teens that it's hard to get a job for. When I had finished my college degree, it took me a while to get a job too! Hang in there...perseverance is the key! |
