How much would a waitress or server make hourly (U.S.)? |
I'm applying for a waitressing/server job at both Chili's and Ruby Tuesday (mmmm)....I have always worked in retail but I know that in the food industry, the pay is different. So I'm not sure what I should put on the application for my desired starting wage...I don't want to look stupid for putting something too little or too high. Also....do you also have to be 21 to be able to serve alcohol? I thought you did, but it occurred to me I might be wrong...I'm 20 by the way. As a former restaurant manager, the best answer you can give on an application is "negotiable". Most likely you will be paid $2.15 per hour, but the tips will more than make up for it. However, during training, you will most likely only make minimum wage and any tips you earn during training will go to your trainer. After you complete training, you will earn a lot more money. Realize that as a waitress, legally a restaurant will not pay you the minimum wage, because as a tipped employee, you will make a LOT more per hour than minimum wages. If you can be friendly, fast and delight the customers by providing outstanding guest service, you should do very well. Make sure that you help the other waitresses and tip the buspeople, because that will help you in the long run. As far as serving alcohol, that depends on each state's liquor laws. Source(s): Former Restaurant manager at a full-service restaurant. minimum wage plus tips shared with the busboy. i think you will be paid like 80 bucks and hour but i dont know nothing and i think you have to be 21 to drink it not serve it but agian me es loco Since you don't have any waitress experience, it is good to ask the interview how much are they paying. This would spear you any embarassment. Besides salary, you can expect tips so do take this into account too. You need not have to be 21 years to serve alcholic. The age is applicable to one who consumes. TIPS.. $2.83 an hour and you have to be 18 to serve alcohol. "Chili's is probally better tips though.... it is hard work but i used 2 make 100 to 150 in a night |
