Is the job title and duties of a Chef's Assistant and Cook's Helper basically one and the same? |
My workplace has an Executive Chef, one Sous Chef, four General Cooks, and one Cook's Helper. I've never been to other professional kitchens where they have someone working as a Chef's Assistant - and I have been wondering if that title and duties compared to that of Cook's Helper are strongly similar if not one and the same. Or are they vastly different? Are these two job titles "entry level" cooking positions? Because I doubt they'd be at the same command level as the General Cook even though I -do- see the Cook's Helper in my kitchen doing some general cooking. Preferably someone who worked in a professional kitchen that has a Cook's Helper or a Chef's Assistant could explain. ok, I worked as a Cook's helper. I also gave him breaks and covered the grill. I eventually became a cook on busy days, but still had to do my "helper" job. eventually became a cook as well, and got a raise. If being a chef is what you want to do, just do your time. and remember what it was like to be in your spot, a good helper makes a big difference to someone. Ive worked in big kitchens and it seemed to me right away that everyone that is not the executive chef no matter what their title is an asst chef.' cooks helper 'sounds like it involves mostly helping the four general cooks and is used to avoid confusion.oops |
