How Much Should I Pay For a Personal Chef? |
We are thinking of hiring a personal chef to help around here. They will only be doing the cooking, not doing housework and cleaning up. How much should you pay the personal chef who specializes in filipino cooking, if you are only a freelance computer engineer that makes $45 an hour? This prospective chef is asking for $20-$40 an hour 5 days a week. Is this too much? How do we come up with a compromise? Ouch!...you'd better shop around, a bit pricey! I'd do it for half that. Half your wages for chef is ridiculous. Though excellent chef is worth your salary from someone who can afford it. Would you only need one meal a day with say 2 hours prep time> or a 4-6 hour day? If longer day perhaps $100 a day would be sufficient. It's very hard to say. The resume will dictate the wages. It depends on the chef's credentials and experience. If he's right out of chef school then salary might be quite reasonable. In addition his/her needs will play a role. Do they have family to support? Is this a "live in" situation? Any benefits? How many people are they cooking for? How complex is the menu? It depends on where you live as well. I f work is plentiful for chefs in your area then the equation changes a gain. Start low. If it's an insult. Listen to the counter offer. Don't be pressured and tell your candidates the second interview will include a complete typical meal before you agree to anything.
