How do i get a job as a chef? |
right now im going to school and my majors culinary. ive never had a job in a restaurant. i loveeee to cook. i know that the retaurant industry is tough. i just want to get a job to make sure i really want to do it. ive looked in the paper and they all require experience. where can i look? where will they take a beginer. i have my servsafe certificate. Keep looking, look to see if you can intern somewhere, go to your schools career center, go to a near by college career center. search on monster.com, Ask questions at restaurants nearby if they are hiring. Have a think about the places you would really like to work at and if none of them are hiring commis with no experience then keep an eye out for dishwasher jobs. I know it pretty much sucks but it's the best way to get your foot in the door of a good place. Express your desire to work your way up and always volunteer to do food prep jobs. Heaps of chefs start out this way. I did too. If you want to be a chef, you have to start at the entry-level cook's position at a professional kitchen. From there, you work your way up the ladder over time. Good luck! go to craigslist.com and search under your area for "chef" or "cook" or "personal chef". There are many prospective employers to work for there. Don't bother looking at hotjobs.com or monsters.com too much competition. Go to craigslist.com, it's the best! |
