Bullying in 'famous' restaurant? |
I value my job, but I don't like the conditions. I want professional advice on how I should proceed. Firstly the Line chefs, actively promotes violence - physical and mental at work. Examples, throws egg on face, lines oil on your feet whilst working to make you slip, hits you with the pan, throws water in your face, throws what ever ingredients you may have prepared on the floor. The Sous chef bullies weak chefs to do things like motion, 'f**kg the dishwasher'. They swear and shout, 'gaylord' 'c**k breath','a**hole','s**tface'. A black waiter gets taunted, arguing and fighting between chefs and a gf working there is harassed by the chefs when she goes into kitchen. Worst, Schef was caught f**king a french waiter in the toilet. No contract no payslips, double shifts in this conditions. The top chef or Headchef does nothing to stop this because they also do No one reports these bad conditions. Is this right? I want to report because I am fed up and I want this to stop I have been a chef for 27 years and before being named `Chef` in 1995, I witnessed many cases of bullying in the kitchen. I was myself involved in bullying in the early 1980's, when I was suspended from work for hitting Chef, after he tried it on with me. (He was later sacked, and I retained my job as a junior) I will not tolerate bullying in my kitchen. I must admit though, I am very loud and shout at my staff, and use some very obscene language, but never insult them. If I were you, I would approach the establishment manager, and tell him about your grievances in the strictest confidence. If this doesn't work, inform the Environmental Health, they will sort it. Good luck mate. Report it then. report to enviromental health and the police, that behaviouris simply not acceptable either that or there are knives lying round in a kitchen. Your wasting you time here, reporting it will get you nowhere. You will spend months trying to change things but it wont work, you'll be stressed, out of pocket and worn down by the whole process so just get out. Find yourself a decent job and leave, think of yourself and tell as many others to get out too. You want to try and get video evidence,,,,and if know ones interested ,,,the local papers,,would be,,,, Many of the incidents you cite are assault which is gross misconduct. However, I see that you don't have a contract or receive payslips which leads me to think that you are not legally employed and suspect that you may not be legally entitled to work. If this is the case then you have little or no redress. there was a documentary on channel 4 a fews years ago, hidden camera in the kitchens of yer man hyde race or whatever. anyway his boss threw pans at the staff especially the waiters who were mostly nigerian. so get a loan of a handheld video cam and record what goes on, or if your phone does video record the abuse and show it to the cops and HSE |
