Why are there more male chefs than female?



Or at least it seems so. When i worked in this resturant, there was only 3 total the whole time i worked there...and it was like 2 years.

You will find more women pastry chef. Because it involves more detail and a lot of exact measurement of ingredients. Which women are generally good at. Men stay more in the kitchen as it involves a lot of heavy work ( butchering, slicing etc.) and rely on the individual taste when adjusting a meal or entree'.
because sexism hasn't died yet.
I guess men like to cook more than woman. Also the tables are being turned now. Now the men have to cook for us.

There are still careers that are viewed as more gender-appropriate, despite our growth away from this tendency. People still use the word "stewardess" and think of nursing as something female. It's the same kind of situation with chefs. Give it time.
Because women don't like to cook, especially in restaurants where they make a lot more in the front of the house. They are bringing in $500.00 a night in tips while a Chef may make 1/2 that if they are lucky. Sexism has nothing to do with it, it's because they aren't stupid.
