How can i get a lot of tips ? |
i work at a chinese restraunt and i need to know ways of getting more tips then i do now.. ?? please help me out A good waiter is worth his weight in gold to a restaurant owner.... to BECOME a good waiter, you must listen INTENTLY to your customers.... even if they are telling you a VERY BAD JOKE like some customers like to do.... you must smile, be VERY PLEASANT, very EFFICIENT and make sure they have things like FILLED WATER GLASSES at the table (since very few restaurants do THAT, your customers will feel respected by doing that for them)... also make sure if they finish their drinks, you are RIGHT there to ask if they would like another one...., when the customer is giving you their order do NOT interrupt them even if they made a mistake---BUT after the customer is finished placing his order, then you could say something like I'm Sorry sir but we actually are service RICE with that and not potatoes---or whatever... Give them at LEAST 60 seconds after the last bite is gone or they've put their napkins on the table signaling they are done before going back to the table to ask if anyone would like dessert... if they say no, hand them the check and tell them they are WELCOME to sit for as long as they need to and if there is anything more they might need, just let you know... and then leave them alone with the check ... now some people are NOTORIOUS BAD TIPPERS no matter what---they don't realize that states actually have SET LIMITS for tipping at restaurants... generally 15% or MORE if the waiter is an extremely good one...that's 15% if the TOTAL meal bill... so, if you have 10 people at a table and each has a separate check (how awful for the waiter)... and the total combined of all 10 checks is $100 for the entire meal, then the tip should reflect at LEAST 15% of that $100 or $15.00 (about a $1.50 per person )...which is HARDLY a huge amout. if it's 1 check for $100 it would still be a $15 tip .... I'd REALLY like to see restaurants putting signs up telling customers to tip no LESS then 15% but I haven't seen them yet. Billyjo----I've seen your little "ADVERTISEMENT" for that website on SEVERAL different answers around Yahoo Answers---I didn't really think it was LEGAL to ADVERTISE for FREE using YA???? I think it's rather tacky myself... if ur chinese then you should know that chinese people are not generous tippers. Myself being chinese, only way I would give more tips in a chinese restaurant is when the waiter refills the tea kettle or tea cups for me without me asking the waiter. All my chinese family and friends look at this as a compliment to good service. you gotta be sexy and hot and talkative. for the oldies you go for polite look, may be a dirty t-shirt and ask for a tip to clean it ;) hahaha be prompt be fast be nice check back at the table a few times get refills without having to be asked do not mess up orders and get the food to the table hot Ditto what little barb said. A good server is also a sales person. Don't ask, can I get you a drink? Ask, what would you like to drink? Also, what would you like for an appetizer? Everytime you enter the dining room actually look at each of your tables to see if they need any assistance. When they are finished the main course, again, not can I get you any dessert but what would you like for dessert. Once you have given them the check, keep an eye on the table so that you can pick up the payment ASAP and DO NOT take very long to return with the change. Good service = good tips Also, the more wealthier the clientele the more they can afford to give you. A really good restaurant with affordably priced meals usually draws in a middle class crowd so tips won't be as much. |
