Is this illegal? Should my boss be paying me?

I'm 17 years old and recently I started working at a new restaurant that just opened. I work as a bus boy and I had never had no previous experience. The first training day I followed another bus boy around and helped him out, went off on my own a little. The second day I did what I thought was better than the night before. My boss said that I should come in in a few days and continue my "training". This would be the third day working and not getting paid for it. When i work I do so for about 6 hours after school and it is hard work. The other employees said that they only had one training day before they got paid and this guy's giving me 3. I'm not incredibly good at bussing or anything but I don't think I'm horrible either. Is my boss trying to screw me over? I heard from someone that legally you have to get paid even for training, is this true? Or is this not a big deal and it just means I need to get better at bussing before I get paid?

This may be a misunderstanding on your part. When I hire new people, I am allowed to work them "off the clock" for a few days for training. This is so you don't show up on productivity reports. The new hires do get paid for their training time though, they just don't clock in and out on the computer. I would ask your manager if you are supposed to be clocking in, maybe someone forgot to train you on that part!
You should be paid for your time - training or otherwise. They can't have you come in and work FREE.
You are being porked.
In the business world for over 35-years.
you are supposed to be getting paid for training. go on your states website to find out what your employment laws are and if needed report that place of business
If this restaurant has hired you to work as a bus boy it is up to them to train you. It is not something you should be penalised for. They should be paying you.
Yes, this is true. Than can pay you minimum only and get around it. You can also show it as training time as far as tip declaration is concerned. They should be paying for any time that they are requiring you to follow their directions.
