Am I eligible for Travel reimbursment for NY State Government interviews? |
I drove almost 800 miles for an interview with NY state. I dont seem to find any information about getting a travel reimbursment. I am not a NY state employee. Interviews are becoming financial burden with the gas price hike. any leads, please provide Did you ask the person who was scheduling your interview if mileage would be reimbursed to you? Did the person you interviewed with offer it to you? If not then the answer would be no. There is no requirement by the state to reimburse for a job interview. Unless there was an agreement for reimbursement of travel the only other way that I am aware that you will find some compensation for your travel and other job seeking expenses is on Schedule A of the US Federal Income Tax Return. If you are unfamiliar with this I suggest you contact the person who prepares your income taxes and find out what information you should be keeping track of for the purpose of claiming these expenses on your 2007 Income Tax Returns. Each Individual Situation is different and without having all your information I could not possibly guide you, however your Tax Accountant would most certainly have that information available and could guide you. Also let me be quick to add that each State has their own tax laws and rulings so I am not familiar with how this would affect your State Income Tax and I am only referring at this point to the Federal. If you are interested in saving money by shopping on-line, saving and earning a little back each time you shop, check out our site at: http://www.newlifebizteam.com and we can even teach you how you too can own your own business. do not let that deter you from checking out the shopping as it is totally free membership and we promise there is no obligation or strings attached. Good luck job hunting and don't forget to check with your tax accountant. I'm afraid not. If you get the job they may offer a offer relocation stipend, but that is the extent of it. On a positive note job search expenses can be written off in your taxes. NY resident all my life. No travel reimbursement available from the State of NY for the interview. Sorry. If you were a state employee you would get paid for the time you were interviewing if you were called from a civil service list. But not it you initiate application for the position yourself and aren't on the list. Next time try asking them at the time of scheduling if they would be willing to do a telephone interview initially. Since there are often two levels of interviewing with the State, it's worth a try.
