Federal or State?

The exam isn't really that hard. Just basic math and reading.

The ease of employment depends on the number of jobs available. There are lots of applicants for entry level jobs, so if you get as high a score as possible on as many exams as you qualify to take, you increase your chances. A lot of the state offices in NY are facing high levels of retirement, so they are bringing in new people to replace retirees whenever they can. Find a good place that's hiring and you've got a good chance of getting in on the entry level. Like I said, do as well as you can on the exam and take every exam you qualify for. It depends on the job you're after.
