How to receive grants to start a non profit organization? |
How to receive grants to start a non profit organization? You need a plan for your organization and some seed money to prove that you have the plan and the wherewithal to actually do what you say you want to do. Then, you need to look for foundations or similar sources who support the objectives of your organization. Getting a non-profit started is about as difficult as starting a business, because those who hand out grants wanting to be sure their funds aren't wasted. Therefore, they look for proven track records which can benefit from a new infusion of funds, over an idea and an initiator with no history of results. That's why you'll often have to get seed money from those who know and trust you rather than from the big foundations. That might mean starting with your church, your family, your social club, or others who will be willing to take a chance on you. To do what? A non-profit has a goal, something it wants to accomplish. Ideally, the people starting it have a track record of some kind of accomplishment in that or a related field. Once those have been defined, then you can approach people and corporations who might be willing to help support that goal, that activity, those people. But be prepared for very close scrutiny and very tight accounting requirements Go to www.usa.gov and check out what they have for your organization. It is plenty of grants out there for non profits. Good luck!!!! |
