What do I need to do to be able to accept donations? |
I dream of being able to do nice things for people who need it - kind of like extreme make-over home edition. But, I don't have money. I think there are a lot of people like me, who could and would donate a few dollars. What would I need to do to be able to accept donations and then do my own "help" projects? To accept donations in just about any state you have to have a 501 (c) 3 rating from the IRS. Call them or go to their web site, and get all of the paperwork including the quide books to establish which classification of 501 you are seeking. Dont let all the paperwork scare you out of following your dream. Take it one page at a time, and if you run up against something you don't understand, call the IRS and ask for help. You will find a pleasant surprise; they are great and will help you in any way they can. It will help you to design your brochure or pamphlet, and have a web site put up as they will ask you to send along that information. In doing those first, your dream wll be growing and on the days when you want to quit, you have something tangible to look at to give you that boost to keep going. Good luck!
