Transportation Security Officer (Federal Job)? |
Does the Transporation Security Administration adhere to the same hiring rules as any other federal government job? Or do they have different guidelines (besides needing a certain number of males/females for pat downs)? Any other info that you can share if you work for TSA? Thanks! I don't work for TSA, but for Customs and Border Protection (a much better choice if you ask me, but you're not asking me so here goes) There are general guidelines that are set by OPM (Office of Personnel Management) by which all different agencies have to abide, then there are particular requirements that OPM authorizes for specific jobs. For this particular agency, you have to be a US Citizen, pass a security clearance and attend a 4-week training program in Oklahoma. You will also need to submit to a drug and alcohol test. On the application instructions (www.usajobs.opm.gov) you will find that they will ask for what OPM calls KSA's (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) that you have to respond to in essay form. These are the KSA's. They are explained in the job announcement: Security Directives and Regulations Written Communication Oral Communication Technical Documentation Problem Solving Interpersonal Skills Reasoning I wish you luck in your job search and encourage you to check out the CBP Officer position as well. They have their own set of rules as does each branch of the govt. They have strict guidelines and experience levels in the type of work. USAJobs.gov has that exact job listing and a requirements tab. you can get it straight from there along with applying. |
