I am taking the 460 postal exam this month need advise? |
What is your best advise for taking the exam, and how hard is the job? How much does pay start? Is it a boring job or is it fun? What was the hardest part of getting hired and taking the test? Buy a book with practice exams. They are extremely helpful, affordable, and found at Borders or any bookstore like that. Being a Letter Carrier is a physically demanding job, I kinda like getting paid to exercise. You start out as a Part Time Flexible Carrier. Don't let the Part Time fool you. You get benefits and usally 40 hours a week. In my office I usually work about 50 hours a week. I think starting pay is just under $18/hour these days. The hours are long but you can make a decent living. I think it's a fun job if you like talking to all kinds of people. Everyday is different. The only bad part of the job is the knucklehead decisions management will make sometimes. But just roll with it. The toughest part of the job is after you get hired, the 90 day probation period. Don't be late, don't have an accident, and don't take a day off in that period. The 460 postal exam is a common knowledge test. Its a little long but nothing to study for. The pay depends on the area and the work you'll be doing. Any job is what you make of it. The hardest part for most people is taking the test and passing it. Good luck and think positive. Go to your nearest large bookstore or on line and get a test preperation book and read it. This will you an idea of the types of questions and some ideas and strategy for the sections. There are 4 sections and they test your ability to think logically, and quickly read and handle numbers and letters. The test is designed to weed people out, usually the unprepared. The post office is a very military like organization. You start at the bottom and get the crappy location and hours. Expect to be ordered around and not "asked kindly." And the job is production oriented. Good luck I tought a seminar on this test for 2 years. I'm not sure about "how hard" the job. I'm waiting to write my real exam but save yourself the time on the bus to get to the bookstore and buy the practice exam course at aceyourpostalexam.com. It was only 20 bucks and well worth it. |
