Can you fundraise without a 501c3? |
I am working with a new non-profit organization and we need money. We have been incorporated, and have applied for our 501c3, but haven't been approved yet. Can we still fundraise? Are there any good internet resources about the rules for this? Yes, but your donors will not be able to claim an income tax deduction for contribution. At this stage, while you're waiting for 501c3 status, I recommend that you start cultivating potential donors by informing them of your mission and purpose of the organization. Also, look inside your organization's board and volunteers - utilize your existing human resources and connections to undertake a mission-related activity. When get your 501c3 status, it will be a lot easier to fund-raise with a track-record of accomplishment with limited resources. Source(s): Non-profit organizational management consultant You can fundraise anytimje you like and for any organization you want. The reason why the 501C3 is important is because any donations made to a 501C3 are tax deductible. Without this status the company/person giving you the donation cannot legally write it off. They may however still want to give you money if they really believe in your cause. Good Luck |
