Postal Employees Only? |
I here the pay is good ($17-18/an hour). but, is it worth it? Is the postal job REALLY that good? What is good and what is bad about the postal job? thank you. I worked for the USPS probably longer than you've been alive. The Postal Service has many pluses. It's been in business for over 200 years, you will not miss a paycheck. Benefits are good. Lots of career opportunities because it's so big. You can be a clerk, a janitor, a letter carrier, a mail handler, a supervisor, a mail processing machine mechanic, a motor vehicle driver or mechanic, a manager, postmaster, or any of hundreds of other jobs. The USPS employs lawyers, doctors, economists, industrial psychologists, engineers, and people in many other career fields. However, it is a somewhat militaristic environment, and often highly structured. The pay IS good, but the best part is that you are making a contribution to the welfare of Americans. We have the best postal system in the world. The USPS has established systems for getting work done, which I think is a huge plus. If you get a job offer, I'd say go for it. If you work there for a while and decide you don't like it, you can always go somewhere else. Most people who work for the post office hate their job, trust me, my job requires seeing them all the time. Work somewhere like UPS. at least with UPS you get to drive a truck and you're not going to every single household on the block, just a small fraction of them. Anything related to the USPS is stressful, hence the higher wages. Nobody wants to do it. there are various postal jobs out there and the wages and benefits of the job vary based on the actual job. if you are sorting packages or loading trucks, then your job may suck if you are more of a people person, but the pay may make it worth it to you. the best thing to do is apply online and an HR rep will be in touch and ask them if you could kind of "tour" the job and really see what it's like before accepting a position. they will appreciate your sincerity and realize that you are really looking for a good job that fits you and aren't going to just accept any old job and quit after a month if you don't like it! take care and good luck, |
