How do you get a decent paying entry level job?

i have been in the same type of work for ten years but, i dont have any transferable skills, how can i break into a new field and not have to live off of cat food?

Depends on your definition of decent-paying, but entry level salaries are usually fairly low unless they're in a field that demands a high level of education.

See if there's any field that's closely enough related to the one you're in that some of the skills you have already shown would take you out of entry-level.
work part time is the job your are really interested in doing
Apply at unionized workplaces. Every job including factory work has transferable skills. Postal work in Canada is good too as it is unionized. If you live in the States find out if they have a union.
Start by looking at county, city and state job boards. Apply for all those that are entry level. I know that corrections (the jail) are always looking for trainees. It may not be what you want to do forever but it gets you in the door. Then you can do a latereal transfer into something you really want. The pay is not half-bad and it includes benefits.

Do you have a degree?

If not, then you need to get one to get any half way decent paying job. Employers are demanding degrees for jobs that barely pay anything (those are called Degreed Mcpay jobs). Just get a degree in anything (a "Wine Tasting" degree if you have to). Just get a degree, and you'll be employed.
