How long does it usually take after the NY civil service exam to find out if you qualify for a position? |
I plan on taking the New York State civil service exam (UPO-1) in the fall and I am curious as to know how long does it take to recieve a canvass letter (of course pending I do well on the exam)? Is it dependent on the position applying for or is it the same for all? I really cannot speak for NY Civil Service, however I am a Federal Civil Service employee. I applied in July of 2004, was notified 8 weeks later that I was minimally qualified for the position I applied for and was offered a position in October of 2004. I didn't actually get into the position until December of 2004. It takes a long time once they consider you qualified. If you call the NY civil service office, they should be able to tell you whether they received your qualification status. They may not be able to tell you right away whether you passed the test or not, but they will tell you if they received your package. Qualification usually goes through several offices and then the person that contacts you is a personnelist who is not in charge of determining your qualification satus...he/she can only tell you whether you qualify or not. If you do qualify, that person will likely be your POC throughout the process to get you hired. Hope that information helps. I took it last year and it was 21 days to 25 days to receive your answer. I passed the test! It wasn't hard, trust me. months and months. very slow. |
