Best way to start a career with a nonprofit group?

I have a degree in Business Administration and a Master degree in Business Information Systems. I am looking to make a change into fundraising for a nonprofit. I don't really have any direct experience in fundraising and looking for advice how to transition into this new field. Specifically I am looking to start with a group in the Kansas City area.

Thanks.

One approach would be to get experience in nonprofit fundraising as a volunteer. This would let you build up directly relevant experience that will make you more appealing to potential employers. It will also give you the opportunity to meet people employed in the field, which could help your job search.
