Where to start? |
I'm a 19 year old girl. I tried working 9 to 5 jobs, one word: torture! Recently I've been thinking about my future and what kind of career I would like to start. I've discovered that the most thing that I'm very passionate about is charity. I've always been envolved with charity and I've always enjoyed helping others. My question is, how do I start my own charitable organization? I know I'm only 19 with little money but I'm willing to work hard and raise money or even get a job to fund my project. I just want to know where to start! I'm in Egypt and that's where I want to start the project. I would love to improve social and economical conditions of Egyptians as well try to help with the problem of huge amounts of homeless children and child labor. Yea I know big dreams but HOW DO I START MAKING THIS HAPPEN? It is really my dream! If you could give me steps on how to start or whar to do, tips or advices.. anything will be greatly appreciated. Don't i have seen a lot of people working around to start their charity/NGo but all of them either had to switch careers or close their org. I suggest find out a Good charoitable org/NGO with those who can relate yourself and be a part of them and Hurrah you have got what you wanted. If you would have told specifically that you want to help poor or oldies i would have suggested you to start But it looked a lot vague that you just wanted a charitable org Hence i suggest go and join one. Not sure if you are satisfied Cheers anyway! Source(s): Geet You need to start by working for other charities that interest you. Business school would be a great idea. You need a mentor to teach you about the In's and outs. You also need to work on your fund raising abilities, it's alot like sales. Starting your own charity is a great idea, but you need to know what you are doing first. Also, you need to network and get to know people in the business. Good luck!! wow im really impress...this is may story...i m 20 and want to start a charitable organizatiom for animals...actually dear we belong to a poor country or u can say a country where there r no bright chances of earning money...if u would have been in USA or Australia then u can easily stand at mcdonalds pr bake cakes & sell them but unfortunately u cant do all this in egypt...u can earn money by teaching in a nearer school or u can open ur own coaching centre...u can sell ur old clothes or stuff like that on www.ebay.com .....or wait until u complete ur study and then start an organization...i love ur passion and im sur one day u'll acheive what do u want because u want to do something for noble cause...and yes onething more,u can join an NGO and work with them...it is not neccessary that u start working by ur own organization...for a list of NGOs working in egypt use google and then u can fill there online form or u can join them by mail...best of luck girl... I am sorry to hear that working a regular job turns you off. You really have no choice but to keep at it until you find work that you can manage. The reason is that starting a one-person charitable organization is really almost impossible. People who have succeeded in the past in doing what you are trying to do have done it by finding a very rich person (or a small group of very rich persons) and talking with that person/those persons until the potential donor's passion about the project was also raised. It isn't impossible to do that, but these people tend to be very difficult to get in to see. One of the reasons is that they are trying to avoid people like you. Sorry, but it's true. The best way to make contact with people who might fund you or help you get funding is to get a job in their organization or in some business where you will come into contact with them. There are lots of foundations and funding organizations that accept applications for grants, but I don't know of any that are willing to fund a new start-up organization with only one person involved. You are more likely to get started with a larger organization. In the meantime, there are things you can/must do: --Write a business plan. Be ready to show that you have done detailed research and planning on exactly what charitable services you plan to provide, demographics, extent of need, how you plan to solve problems that seem likely to arise, what kind of staffing you need, your education and qualifications, and many other topics. You can get help writing a business plan through local and regional educational institutions. --Visit all the schools and colleges in your area. Find the people that are involved in fund raising and can help you make some connections. Take courses in organization and administration. Meet people. Keep a logbook. Write down ideas. The more you do it, the better you will become at it. Good luck. Starting a charity is a lot of work. A charity is basically a money processing organization, so you need to have a robust business plan to get contributions and a reliable way to distribute them to the needy. Most charities start with a large capital contribution, but you can start with a business plan, to define the purpose, who you're helping and how the financing will work. Best of luck. First, I admire your ambition. I would recommend that you prepare a concept paper that documents your ideas Find other individuals that are interested in this concern and have them review and enhance the concept paper and develop it into a business plan that outlines the funding requirements for staff, equipment, materials and other needs. Find a lawyer to prepare articles of incorporation for the organization (or whatever legal org. status in Egypt) and go forth and fund-raise..... good luck!!! |
