Does the government allows green card holders to get a Security Clearance? |
just curious Depends on if it's a Dept. of Defense controlled agency or not. Under DoD regulations a non-US Citizen can not hold a security clearance. Civilian agencies (like the Dept. of Energy) rely more on the adjudication decision. The result is that it may be possible for someone of great talent/ special ability with no citizenship to be permitted access. This is very highly unlikely though. So the short answer is really: No. Also note, that Federal Law states the Govt. can only hire a non-citizen if no qualified citizens applies. If the non-citizen does get hired, they are extremely limited in jobs they can fill and promotions. Source(s): http://www.taonline.com/securityclearanc... Yes and No..it would depend on the type of job that your applying for. If it's military related then your security clearance will take a LONG time...if not, it is going to depend on the employer. Hope this helps. Yes, but you really need a skill that the DoD or DoE would need such as translating Dari & Arabic Codes about Nuclear Physics experiments or something dramatic like that. Basically something that not one of the 380 million American citizens could do. In any case, you'll be scruitinized to the point where it will be nearly impossible to get the clearance within your lifetime unless there's a major push by a top figure in DoD / DoE or Karl Rove himself. Once you place your paperwork in, there's an endless 'adjucation' period which can last up to forever. In addition, there's levels to the Security Clearance from Basic to the neverending levels of 'Top Secret' . With a Green Card, you can only expect to get the Basic level at best. I have only met a topmost level of Top Secret once; that person displayed a level of patriotism which placed the importance of America over family, friends, and everything he held personal. Finally, ever since 9/11, EVERY DoE and DoD employee needs a security clearance at least to be cleared. To my understanding, the backlog has grown to about 5 years or so.
