Living and working as an American abroad...best options?

I'm curious about living abroad with my family. I am in my mid 30's with three young children (two under age four) and I'm about to complete my B.A. in English. I am considering getting my masters in education and applying with the Department of Defense to teach at a U.S. installment overseas because I'm concerned that I will not be able to support my family on a "language school" teacher's salary. I think the experience of living in another culture for a few years would be extremely beneficial to my kids, and I am just wondering who else has done this and what your experience was. I don't want to put my children in danger, but I have a real desire to travel, and want to share it with my kids. I have the ability to gain dual citizenship with Ireland, and so would have an EU passport, though my family members would not. Any input at all (to the point) will be appreciated. Thanks!

I just recently graduated college in the states, but a couple years back in middle & high school my father chose to move our family to Heidelberg Germany for two years while he was working as a civilian with the Army. It was a very educational and rewarding experience that I would suggest to any parent. Your kids will thank you later. Source(s): Been there from your childs perspective and learned more about the world then I ever could have in a classroom.
It would be easier to gain and Euro Passport than to use your American one; unless you are intending to work on a military base.

I worked for DND in Canada on bases through out the world. I also have a Euro Passport and Canada Passport. So I had no problem. When a country that wasn't within the EU I didn't need to have anything more than my Canadian Passport and Government Secret Security Pass...it was accepted every where...no passport required.

Good luck.
