How can I become a police officer with bad credit?

I want to become a police officer but have some credit issues and I have heard that you cannot become one. How can I become one with bad credit. I am not a bad person just had a little setback

The first thing to do is clean up your credit. Get a parttime job just for the credit clean up. Even flipping burgers is better then not paying off the bills. Talk to your creditors to arrange a payment plan that equitable to both of you. They will normally work with you. Once you have paid off the old bills you may have to establish credit once again. Talk to your banker about how to do this. Don't be surprised if the PD you want to works for you asks, just be honest about the circumstances, and show them what you have done to clean up the mess.
Go to your local consumer credit corporation and get help with your credit issues. These are non-profit organizations that can help you to establish better credit, by "working out" a payment schedule to meet your needs.

Once you're on that payment schedule, then apply, with a notation, if asked, that you are working with the organzation on some credit issues.

This shows that:

1. You want to establish better credit.
2. You're not just walking away from your debts.
3. You're honest about your mistakes.
You can't until your credit is clean.
