County hiring process?

about a month ago i did an interview with the county of orange in CA. They turned me down for the job. Yesterday my supervisor received a call from them for a reference for me. Has that ever happened to anyone? I haven't heard anything yet. My supervisor told me he called back and gave my reference....

Your probably still reachable on the eligibility list. You may have not received the other position, but another became available and you are a candidate that they have in mind. You must have scored really high on your written test and or oral interview.
Good Luck and keep pursuing it. It will be well worth it in the end. I am a state employee and most of their hiring procedures are pretty much the same. Have patience. It will take time.

It is quite possible that another job came open and they are considering you for the position.
