Roles of public relations in non-profit organisations?

it is an assignment, and am to write about 10 pages on it.

Most non-profit organizations rely on public goodwill for donations. Even if they offer a product or service, they still rely on the fact that the proceeds are going to a worthy cause. Thus I would say most non-profits that have a charitable purpose by default start out with a high degree of good public relations and goodwill, and it's important for them to keep it. More so than a regular profit-making business since businesses compete on the basis of price and quality of product, and non-profits compete largely on the basis of goodwill.
the answer is good but it is not enough.

They function the same way whether PR is being done for a business or non-profit organization. The only difference is in non-profit organizations PR is more of the advocacy type rather than institutional or product image building.
