How do you create a non-profit organization in New Jersey, but your office is your home and? |
I am pretty much saying, I want to create a non-profit organization Second Life Teen.(I do not need to know i have to be less than 18) Anyway, If i would like to make this organization, how do i announce it to New Jersey, where it will be a registered organization. Who would I speak to, and also, if they ask where my organization is located, could i say my own home? because the organization in based in the Second Life world? Running the organization from ur home address isn't a problem at all. This is actually how most non-profits start. Th every first thing you need to do is file as a 501c(3) organization with the IRS. (you can look this up online to get step-by-step instructions). Once you have been issues a tax id number by Uncle Sam, you will be able to begin looking for grantors to fund the organization. (This also can be researched online. There are plenty of sites that list grantors for you, but you may need to pay a subscrpition fee for them. Also, majpr corp[orations such as Coca-Cola, Zerox, etc, give to nonprofits quite frequently.) Keep in mind taht you will need alot of paper work BEFORE you apply for the tax id and grantors. Among those things are a mission statment stating precisely what your organization does, a budget for the first 3 years of operation (that is, what you EXPECT the budget to be. . .they want to see an itemized list of exactly where the money will be going). Also, you will need resumes of any employees you plan on taking on and paying salaries to. When u apply for the 501c(3), they will teall you exactly what they need from you, as will the grantors. Good luck! Source(s): Nonprofit Grant Writer I don't know if all the trouble of registering the non profit with the Secretary of State and filing your articles of incorporation as well as getting 501c3 certification from the IRS is worth it. Or even if these government bodies would consider it considering that your organization does not really exist in the real world. I don't think the IRS is ready for virtual world like Second Life |
