Why does the government require employers to request racial information on job candidates? |
If the government claims that racial quotas are so wrong, why do they continue to collect racial information on job applicants and in the census? Why do they REQUIRE that companies request this information from job candidates? It seems hypocritcal to me. Are you talking about federal jobs? if so that info is optional and we dont send it in until the person is actually hired. Source(s): Federal Employee This doesn't have to do with quotas, since it shouldn't affect if the person will be hired. It is statistical so they can see if people are getting the opportunity to apply to jobs, etc... As far as I know that information being filled out on the application is not a mandatory thing but is optional. The government wants it, though, because employers are required to not discriminate (even if quotas are wrong, if they see that 40% of the applicants for positions were black and you only hired 2% blacks, it is indicative that there could be discriminatory hiring practices). In some companies, in addition to the EEOC requirements I spoke of above, there are also OFCCP requirements that are even more stringent. The last thing an employer wants is Uncle Sam crawling up their sphincter with a microscope looking for OFCCP or EEOC blunders. Can't REQUIRE you give that info here in California. YES, obviously the racial info they get is WRONG, BECAUSE they do not require it!!! What is the big deal with giving this info? Are you against equal opportunity programs and government tax breaks to companies that hire disadvantaged youth? It is not hypocritical at all, you are paranoid and don't have all the facts. |
