How can I become a USDA food inspector?

I have seen all the news coverage about how few inspectors there are and that food is entering our country without being inspected as it should.
Currently, I do accounting and taxes and I think I would be happier working closer with people. How would I go about getting licensed? I have no idea as this is a whole new realm for me. Thought I would throw my question out to you guys.

The USDA website has a very good section on how one can become a food inspector

This is the step by step instruction on how to apply for a food inspector position

Check with U.S. Depertment of Agriculture to see what qualifications you need for the job. Also check with your State Department of Labor.
