How do I start an official nonprofit orginazation? Do I even NEED nonprofit status?

I want to raise $$ for charities. I am going to hold dinner/entertainment events to raise money for charity. Do I even need nonprofit status? I am underaged and in the state of CA.

If you are coordinating fundraising events on behalf of a nonprofit, you do not need to be a nonprofit. Basically, you would "contract" with the nonprofit as a fundraiser.
Your statement "official nonprofit organization". Donations to official nonprofit organizations are often tax deductible, and the organization must be its own taxpayer identification from the IRS(except for public school buster events and etc). There is no age requirement that I know of in starting a nonprofit organization. You can do it own your own with some major reading and studying of the IRS code and forms.
Consider visiting www.irs.gov for publication and forms on forming a nonprofit or even call the IRS at 1-877-829-5500.
You may consider contacting some local nonprofits and see if they would be interested in using you for events you talk about(lodges for example).
I wish you the best and commend you on planning.
